BACKGROUND AND RACING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
After serving as a Top Fuel Motorcycle mechanic for team boss Brett Stevens for a number of years, Stevens rewarded McLean with the opportunity to ride the teams second Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley in 2003.
Since his transition onto the rider's seat, McLean immediately became a real Championship contender. In his maiden event, the 2003 Australian Nationals, he was runner up and broke into the magical ‘6 seconds', placing him in the top 5 riders of all time in Australia.
McLean’s first full season racing in the Australian Top Bike Championship saw him come 3rd in the 2003/2004 season. He was also the 2003/2004 ‘Rookie of the Year' and took out both the 2004 Australian Nationals and 2005 Winternationals.
In 2004/2005 he went one better by securing the runner up position behind Brett Stevens, making it a Jack Daniel's Racing one-two in the Championship with one round still remaining in the series.
He also amazingly lowered the mark for Australia’s quickest Harley Davidson on four occasions in the 2004/2005 Championship season. He ran 6.75 (WSID, NSW, September 2004), 6.72 (Perth Motorplex, WA, December 2004), 6.67 (WSID, NSW, May 2005) and 6.59 (Willowbank Raceway, QLD, June, 2005).
In the opening round of the 2005/2006 Championship season he once again lowered the mark for Australia’s quickest Harley to 6.51 seconds (Sydney, Sept 2005). This time also places him third in the Australian All Time Bike records.
With these stellar consistent Results, he finished the 2005/2006 Championship with another 3rd position.
In 2006/2007 McLean once again showed he is one of the countries best riders finishing g the season in second position. This means that in his 4 years competing at the elite level of the sport he is yet to finish out of the top 3 in the Australian Championship.
