BACKGROUND AND RACING ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Pete ‘The Punisher’ Cochrane is one of the countries most experienced Drag Bike riders, beginning his racing career at age 19 in 1981 on standard street bikes. Over the years he has raced numerous machines with many event victories covering nearly every Drag Racing motorcycle bracket in Australia as he progressed up the ranks through 9 second Modified Bikes, 8 second Competition Bikes and ultimately up to the professional Pro Stock Bike.
Cochrane’s first foray into the Group One Pro Stock Bike bracket came in 1994 when he teamed up with Craig Thompson Machining to construct his own custom built motorcycle, running it into the low 8 seconds over the quarter mile.
With rule changes in the category in 2000, he stepped up his operation and purchased a brand new chassis in 2001 and then a new engine package in 2004. With just one season sorting out the new combination Cochrane managed to reset the Australian Pro Stock Bike MPH record to 177. 94 mph (286.37 kph) in 2005.
Over the years he has continued to be one of the most respected riders in the bracket and because of his extensive riding experience. Cochrane has also been hired as a test and development rider on many occasions, running Nitro Funny Bikes, Pro Stock Bikes and Competition Bikes for several race teams over the years.
This expertise lead Cochrane to the opportunity of being able to debut the Brett Stevens Racing prepared S&S Powered Pro Stock Buell when it was unveiled in Australia for the first time at the Bike Fest in Sydney, NSW in April 2006.
Under the guidance of S&S Cycles Senior Manager of Racing Charlie Hadayia from the USA, Cochrane and the bike made a spectacular introduction when on only its third pass on Australian soil it ran a sub National Record time (at the time) of 7.29 seconds.
Following this, the S&S bikes riding duties were taken over by Dion Prowse for the 2006/2007 ANDRA season and the Results continued where Cochrane left off as Prowse went through the entire Championship undefeated in the first season for both rider and machine, winning the National Title in the process.
Cochrane however stayed on with the Brett Stevens Racing team in a consulting and testing role and this dedication, mixed with his unrivaled knowledge and skills, has seen him be named as the official team rider of the S&S Powered Buell for the 2007/2008 Australian Championship.
