BACKGROUND AND RACING ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Growing up in a small coastal town, Kath was always an integral part of the community. Her outgoing personality, bolstered by her initiative constantly saw her seeking new and interesting challenges.

Her dedication to volunteer work, including the State Emergency Services, Riding for the Disabled and Camp Quality saw her first nominated for Young Australian of the Year in 1995.

Later that same year, Kath became the first female in the North Coast Region to achieve her Queens Scout Award, and then went on to complete both Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Awards as well as becoming a Warranted Scout Leader.

Two years later saw her second nomination and finalist for the Young Australian of the Year Awards for Community Service, and in a separate ceremony at Government House in NSW received an award for Meritorious Conduct after rescuing a mother and young boy from an overturned vehicle.

Other personal interests include music (clarinet and piano), outdoor sports and ballroom dancing. Then when Kath was asked to drive a Rally Car in the Queensland Mud Bash Derby, motorsports was also added to the list. Determined to take up the challenge to the male contingent, she was and victorious in four out of five events, setting yet another mark in the history books.

Kath, now a truck driver by trade, enlisted in the Defence Force on finishing her Higher School Certificate and spent six years in the Australian Army as a heavy vehicle operator, spending the majority of time on the road. She was deployed to East Timor in 1999 on a peace enforcement operation and settled in Brisbane on returning where she first met Brett.

Surprisingly enough, Brett and Kath first met at the racetrack when he signed a poster for her! Today, the pair work side by side in what has turned into a full time operation for the successful race team.

Kath's keen interest in Drag Racing has now taken her to a position where she created a world first, entering what has for a long time been a male dominated sport. Taking aboard all the knowledge and teaching that Brett has to offer, in November 2004 Kath made her debut as the first ever female driver to race in the Top Doorslammer Championship Series.

Officially unveiled at the Western Sydney International Dragway in September 2004, her first Top Doorslammer, a Jack Daniel's sponsored 1963 Split Window Corvette was launched. This was constructed entirely in the Brett Stevens Racing chassis shop. With its sleek new look, Kath and her Corvette certainly brought a change of scenery and competition to the top class of Australian Drag Racing.

After taking a short break in her racing career due to a non racing related motorcycle accident and the birth of her and Brett’s first child, Kath is back in the drivers seat taking it up to the guys and bringing a change of scenery and competition to the top class of Australian Drag Racing in her band new Jack Daniel’s Racing Falcon Top Doorslammer.

Kath has gained a cult like following with her racing and in the 2006/2007 Top Doorslammer Series, which was her full season racing, she finished in the top half of the field in 11th position in the Championship out of 28 contenders.

2008 - World Record, first female in history to run a 5 second quater-mile in a doored car.
