BRETT STEVENS RACING TO SPRING INTO ACTION AT WILLOWBANK RACEWAY

Group One ANDRA Championship Drag Racing returns to Willowbank Raceway for the first time in the 2008/2009 National series with the inaugural Spring Championships kicking into action this Friday and Saturday (26th-27th September).

Leading the charge at the event is the local Queensland based Brett Stevens Racing team, which was recently launched as the world’s largest professional Drag Racing outfit.

The Spring Championships will see BSR field a total of 5 Group One race vehicles that includes two reigning Australian Champions as well as two of the team’s celebrated new recruits across the Top Alcohol and Top Bike categories.

Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens himself will be looking at gaining an early season ascendancy with an eye on back to back Titles in Top Alcohol in his 3500 horsepower Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car, as well as doing double duties riding the Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley.

Team mate and current Top Bike Champion Troy McLean will also be going for glory at his home track on the SP Racing Nitro Harley after a sensational start to the new season a fortnight ago in Sydney where he re-set the National Harley Davidson record at 6.43 seconds.

However Stevens and McLean won’t have it all their own way in the bracket as they will also have to contend with current National Nitro Harley Speed Record holder Kim Stevens, who is back riding full time for BSR on the Mack Trucks Harley, and also the team’s new star rookie Alex Borg on the Makita entry.

QUOTES

Brett Stevens – Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Bike/Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car

“We are really pumped up for the Spring Championships and everyone is looking for a good points haul at Willowbank Raceway after rain postponed the season opener,” Brett Stevens said.

“After a sensational 2007/2008 my Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car is just getting better and better with every pass and we really want to set some new benchmarks with it again in 2008/2009.”

“I think Top Bike though has really come of age and is going to be one of the standout Group One brackets this season with the competition heating up.”

“I will have to be right on my game on my Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley this weekend and wouldn’t be surprised if we see an all 6-second Eliminations field.”

Troy McLean – SP Racing Top Bike

“I’m really looking forward to the Spring Championships, I set a personal best time and the quickest outside North America for a Nitro Harley two weeks ago and can’t wait to get back out on track,” McLean said.

“The competition is probably the toughest it has ever been so we are always evolving and trying to go quicker, this season we are trying a couple of new things and the early signs are good.”

“The Brett Stevens Racing Top Bikes will definitely be a force again for the Spring Championships and the 2008/2009 National Championship.”

Kim Stevens – Mack Trucks Top Bike

“It was good to blow out cob webs in the season opener with a solid 6 second pass and now it is time to step everything up a gear,” Kim Stevens said.

“The Brett Stevens Racing Top Bikes are some of the best and most consistent machines in the competition and we know we can beat anyone in the field if the cards fall right.”

“I am really focused on getting the Mack Trucks Nitro Harley in the winners circle, and the sooner the better!”

Alex Borg – Makita Top Bike

“Despite this being my rookie year in Group One Championship Drag Racing I have big expectations for both myself and the Makita team,” Borg said.

“The first round of the series in Sydney saw some mixed results with a parts failure resulting in the engine of the Makita Top Bike detonating and causing major damage before I was able to hit the track.”

“While some may be happy with a first up top 10 result in the rain shorten event, I will be looking at bettering this at the Spring Championships with some 6 second passes and a place inside the top 8.”
