BRETT STEVENS MAINTAINS SECOND POSITION IN TOP DOORSLAMMER CHAMPIONSHIP

Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens has maintained his second position in the ANDRA Top Doorslammer Championship series with a solid result in difficult conditions at the Tin Top Titles over the weekend (18th-19th April).

In front of a strong crowd at Queensland’s Willowbank Raceway, Stevens powered his 3000 horsepower Jack Daniel’s Racing Ford Falcon to the number 3 qualifying position on a very slippery track before going out in the second round of the Elimination Finals.

Despite having to concede the 2007/2008 Top Doorslammer Championship to Perth’s John Zappia, Stevens was still able to increase his lead over the third placed contender in the cold and overcast conditions.

“The weather really threw everyone a curve ball this weekend and there was plenty of head scratching going on with the cars tune ups,” Stevens said.

“Most of the teams found it extremely difficult getting all of the power to the racing surface which made for some very spectacular passes for the loyal crowds in the stands.”

“In the Championship I was unable to stop Zap (John Zappia) clinching the title but it has been well deserved and I would like to congratulate him and his team.”

“With just one round remaining in the season though I now have 60 points over third place so it was great to be able to consolidate my second position.”

Kath Stevens in the second Jack Daniel’s Racing Doorslammer and Steve Packman in the teams SP Racing Ford Falcon also made the first ever 16 car Top Doorslammer field at the Tin Tops, but both went out in their first Eliminator.

“I was really hoping to go a couple of rounds at least this weekend but we were just a tiny bit off with the cars setup which caused us to have some tyre shake issues as we over-powered the track,” Kath Stevens said.

“My second qualifier on Friday (18th April) night was a really wild ride in the skatey conditions but it wasn’t just me with most racers struggling to keep their cars going in straight line, let alone run a good number.”

“After the postponement of the final qualifier on Friday (18th April) due to safety concerns to Saturday (19th April) prior to the Eliminations, I thought that we would be really able to turn up the heat a bit but Brett was the only one of out team to run a good time with a great 6.15 second pass.”

“I then had to face off against reigning National Champion Gary Phillips first up so we couldn’t hold anything back, but unfortunately at the hit of the throttle the my tyres just lit up and it was all over for me.”

“We will be back for the Winternationals in June though looking for the win at the largest Drag Racing event in the Southern Hemisphere.”
