BRETT STEVENS RACING WORKSHOP IN OVERDRIVE
In the wake of the current world economic crisis, the Brett Stevens Racing team elected not to travel to Western Australia to contest the Goldenstate Championships in order to consolidate their resources for the remainder of the 2008/2009 ANDRA Championship Drag Racing series.
Far from taking a break however, they have been in overdrive at their Queensland based workshop concluding their most recent testing schedule and also working on a number of exciting new projects which they are hoping to launch in 2009.
The testing at Willowbank Raceway proved extremely promising for the next round of the Top Doorslammer series with team driver Steve Packman running his SP Racing Falcon to a personal best speed of 249.17 mph/401.00 kph, making him the third fastest legal trim Top Doorslammer in history behind Brett Stevens (252.66 mph/406.76 kph) and Gary Phillips (249.86 mph/402.27 kph).
With a four car Doorslammer attack on Willowbank Raceway’s New Year Series in January, Brett Stevens Racing will be looking at having Packman, team newcomer Daniel Reed in the Makita Falcon, former Speedway star Todd Waddell in the Mack Trucks car and ‘The Boss’ himself behind the wheel of the Jack Daniel’s Racing entry all at the pointy end of the field at the event.
“It was disappointing to have to sit out the Goldenstates, especially with the ideal conditions and results that were achieved over there, but for the long term success of my racing operation it was best that we stayed in Queensland and I hope the fans understand this,” Stevens said.
“It did give us the opportunity however to finish our testing at our local track Willowbank Raceway with Steve Packman really stepping up to the plate, he has a bit more pressure on him now with the young guns joining my team but is really starting to make his presence felt.”
“Daniel Reed also began his Top Doorslammer licensing procedures but is yet to finalise these, we will have everything completed and ready for January though.”
The Brett Stevens Race Fabrication chassis shop has also been extremely busy building and preparing vehicles for the soon to be launched ‘Brett Stevens Drag Race Experience’.
This new initiative by Stevens will be the first of its kind anywhere in the world with a self-drive Drag Racing program travelling the country year round.
Expected to begin operating in early 2009, it will cater to both corporate and individual customers who want to experience the thrill of racing down the quarter mile strip in a custom built supercharged V8 Drag car.
“I think that the BSR Drag Race Experience will be really popular, there are a lot of people out there who dream of getting behind the wheel of a real Drag car but for whatever reason don’t have the means,” Stevens said.
“This new venture will now give them that chance as well as help to open up the sport of Drag Racing to the main stream population even more.”
“My team is also in the process of organising a move to a brand new workshop facility that will house my race team, Chassis Shop and Drag Race Experience with a retail shop where fans can come to visit.”
“With sponsorship agreements in place for 2009 and beyond, despite current world events, things are looking bigger and better for both Australian Drag Racing and Brett Stevens Racing.”
