MOTORSPORT ICON BRETT ‘THE BOSS’ STEVENS LAUNCHES BOOK

It would be safe to say that in the forty plus years of organised Drag Racing in Australia that there has only ever been one competitor and team owner that has had the presence of Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens, both on and off the race track.

With one of not only Australia’s, but the worlds largest motor racing teams with eight cars and bikes competing across five brackets and a massive crew to make it all happen, Stevens has become a legend of the sport.

The Brett Stevens Racing team fields racing vehicles in the professional Top Alcohol, Top Doorslammer, Top Bike and Pro Stock Bike categories, as well the Modified Bike bracket.

Stevens himself is the only person in the world to compete simultaneously in three Group One racing categories, campaigning a Mustang Funny Car in Top Alcohol, a Ford Falcon in Top Doorslammer and a Nitro Harley in Top Fuel Bike.

To celebrate the racing life of Brett Stevens, publisher Bookworks has released a new biography on his achievements to date, which was officially launched today (Tuesday 28th August, 2007) at the Dues Ex Machina motorcycle shop in Sydney.

‘THE BOSS – The Brett Stevens Story’ was written by veteran drag racing photo-journalist Jon Van Daal after he spent the best part of a year following Brett and his team’s successes in the quest for multiple Australian National Drag Racing Association Championships.

“Over the course of the last seventeen years Brett Stevens has assembled one of the largest ever teams of professional Drag Racing entries in the world, and while many companies may sponsor more entries, only Brett contests three different brackets himself and has another five drivers and riders who also compete in four different ANDRA professional brackets,” Van Daal said.

“This would be akin to Craig Lowndes winning a race in his V8 Supercar and then climbing into an Indy Champ car and winning with that and then turning around and climbing on a MotoGP bike to go and out win again - and that pretty much sums up the level of his accomplishments in Australian Drag Racing.”

“With up to forty team members on the Brett Stevens crew thrashing between rounds, at a big event it can look like organised chaos so how does one man co-ordinate such a force of committed and talented people? Alfie the cook summed it up for me at one event very well when he said that Brett is one of the most inspirational people he’d ever worked for, he is a legend in the sport and he is ’The Boss’.”

“While many racers struggle to find one sponsor; Brett Stevens has many. Harder still is trying to re-sign them; Brett has had most for a long time. When Jack Daniel’s took him on in 1994 they didn’t sponsor any motor racing team anywhere in the world and he has been with them ever since.”

“This is due to his unrivalled commitment to everything he does, one of Brett’s other sponsors S&S Cycles has been with Brett for just over one year and in the words of their CEO, Brett Smith, you are the best team in Australia.”

“While I have photographed and written about various motor racing and boat racing events over the past 33 years there is truly know one else like him I have ever met, and I hope this book gives fans an insight into the life of ‘The Boss’.”
