MOTOR RACING STAR BRETT STEVENS GIVES BLOOD TO TERRITORIANS

Multiple Australian Drag Racing Champion and burnout stunt driver Brett ‘The Boss' Stevens will not only be giving the crowds something to cheer about at the SKYCITY V8 Supercars and NT Drag Racing Titles over the next couple of weeks at Hidden Valley Raceway, but will also be giving something much more important to the citizens of the Northern Territory.

With a gap in his busy schedule, Stevens today (Wednesday 20th June) made an appointment with the Darwin Donor Centre at Casuarina to roll up his sleeves and become a volunteer blood donor, doing his part in helping to boost Australia’s blood supplies and also assist with the Red Cross Blood Services Winter Blood Challenge.

“I always enjoy this time year when I get to come up to Darwin for a couple of weeks to put on some shows and also enjoy what the Northern Territory has to offer,” Stevens said.

“But this year I thought I would give something back of even greater value by donating some blood. Each donation is helping to save up to three people and it only takes around an hour of your time.”

“I finished up about 15 minutes ago and I’m feeling fine, so you can be sure I will be back on track straight away.”

“I will be tearing up a few of my slicks around Hidden Valley this weekend in my 2,500 horsepower Jack Daniel’s Racing Burnout Ute for the V8 Supercars and then match racing Top Doorslammers, Top Alcohol Funny Car and Nitro Harleys at the NT Drag Racing Titles on the 7th July.”

Stevens is one of the countries leading Drag Racers, operating a team of seven Group 1 vehicles and is the only person in the world to compete in three professional Drag Racing brackets simultaneously (Top Doorslammer, Top Alcohol and Top Bike).

Some of his recent Drag Racing accomplishments include winning the 2005 Australian Top Bike Championships and the 2004 Australian Top Doorslammer, inductee into the Australian Motorcycle Hall of Fame, Australia’s quickest Harley record of 6.49 seconds at 215 mph (347 kph) over the quarter mile, as well as various other records and titles.

This winter Australia needs more than 270,000 blood donations to ensure that hospitals have enough blood and blood products to meet the needs of patients. While blood is needed all year round, this is especially the case in Winter when cold and flu can prevent people from giving.

The Winter Blood Challenge is calling on all people and organisations to make the commitment to give blood as a group over the coming months in healthy competition. To sign up your team today call 13 14 95 or visit www.donateblood.com.au and make an appointment.
