BACKGROUND AND RACING ACCOMPLISHMENTS

No other Australian Drag Racer casts a footprint on the sport as large as Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens. Operating at the elite levels of the sport, Stevens commands the largest motorsport team in the country with seven Group 1 vehicles and is the only person in the world to compete in three professional Drag Racing brackets simultaneously; Top Bike, Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol.

A motor mechanic by trade, Stevens began his long and successful career as a drag racer in 1990 when he traveled to the United States and purchased his first Nitro Harley Top Fuel Motorcycle from good friend and Drag Racing legend, the late Jim McClure. At the time he was the owner and Managing Director of a Harley Davidson motorcycle shop in Brisbane, QLD, but decided to sell the shop to professionally Drag Race and perform at car and bike shows full time all over Australia.

In 1993 the team first became known as Jack Daniel’s Racing in a relationship that still stands today. Over the following years Stevens developed one of the most feared reputations on the drag strip for his racing innovations and skills.

In 2000 Stevens took up the challenge of racing on four wheels by entering into the ultra competitive professional Top Doorslammer category, along with riding his Nitro Harley Top Bike. He created history in the sport later that year sport when, on the 4th of November, he raced and won two Group 1 brackets (Top Bike and Top Doorslammer) at the same meeting at Calder Park, Melbourne. While it is not rare to see one driver compete in different vehicles and win, Brett was the first to pilot a Nitro-burning Harley Davidson and an alcohol-burning Supercharged Sedan to victory at the same event.

Considering it was his Rookie year racing his Doorslammer it made the feat even more spectacular and he received praise from around the globe. Only days after his fantastic achievements at Calder Park, he was presented with an Australian Sports Medal for Motorsport by his Local Member of Parliament Mr. Ken Hayward. This is authorised by the Governor-General and recorded within the Australian Honours System.

Throughout his career Stevens has had an uncanny ability to break records everywhere he races. This was proven in February 2003 when Brett broke the New Zealand National Top Doorslammer Record and then only weeks later in Perth, re-set the Australian National Top Doorslammer Record.

In December 2003 in Perth saw Stevens once more set a world standard by again winning two Group 1 brackets at the same event. This had not been done again since his same achievement in 2000 and he has now gone on to equal this record again in February 2004, February 2006 and June 2006.

The 2003/2004 ANDRA Championship season was one of Stevens most successful to date where he won the highly coveted Top Doorslammer Title with one round still remaining in the competition. Adding to this he was also a close runner up in the Top Bike Championship after leading for most of the season and winning more rounds than any of his competitors.

In September 2004 Stevens was given the honour of being one of the inaugural inductees (along with Mick Doohan) into the Australian Motorcycle Hall of Fame.

The first round of the 2004/2005 Australian Championship series in September 2004 saw Stevens once more set a world standard when he became the first person to compete in three Group 1 Drag Racing categories simultaneously, where he raced his Jack Daniel's Racing Top Doorslammer and Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Bike as well as his new Kitten Car Care Products Top Alcohol Funny Car. He then went on to qualify for the elimination rounds in all of the classes.

In May 2005 Stevens wrapped up the 2005 Australian Top Bike Championship with one round remaining in the Series, his first in the bracket after 15 years competing after numerous Top 3 finishes. Throughout the season the two Brett Stevens Racing constructed Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Bikes (Brett Stevens and Troy McLean) also became the two quickest (elapsed time) and fastest (speed) Harley Davidson’s ever in the Southern Hemisphere.

At the opening round of the 2005/2006 Championship season in September 2005, Brett once again re-set the Australian Harley Davidson Speed Record when he powered to a 215 mph (347 kph) pass.

The Australia Day Ceremony in January 2006 saw Stevens again honoured for his contributions to motorsport and the community with him being presented the an Australia Day Award for Sports Person of the Year for the Caboolture Shire.

In February 2006 Brett again set a World standard when he became the only person to ever make three Finals in three separate Drag Racing brackets at the same event. The end result was Brett winning Top Bike and Top Doorslammer, and was runner up in Top Alcohol.

May of 2006 saw Brett eclipse another mark when re-set the Australian Top Alcohol Funny Car record to 5.60 seconds at the Western Sydney International Dragway.

At the season ending 2006 Winternationals in June, Brett won both the Top Bike and Top Alcohol brackets (his fifth ‘double win’ of his career), and re-set the Australian Harley Davidson Record at 6.50 seconds. This result also placed him Runner Up in both the Top Bike and Top Alcohol National Championships.

The 2006/2007 season once again saw Stevens raising the bar in Australian Drag Racing when he added a Pro Stock Motorcycle and new rider to his growing team. It now incredibly consists of seven Group 1 vehicles including three Top Doorslammers (Brett Stevens, Kath Stevens and Steve Packman), two Top Fuel Bike Nitro Harleys, one Top Alcohol Funny Car (Brett Stevens) and one Pro Stock Motorcycle (Dion Prowse).

The team went on to take 11 wins for the season, including 2 for Stevens in the debut season in his all new Ford Falcon Top Doorslammers, 2 in Top Alcohol and 1 in Top Bike. He also once again re-set the Australian Harley Davidson Record at 6.49 seconds.

With a late season charge in his Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car, Stevens just fell short of his first National Championship in the bracket finishing Runner Up for the second year in a row.

Stevens also divot's a lot of his time and resources to charity involvement's including the Kids with Cancer Foundation, Leukemia Foundation, Variety Club, Victoria's operation Drag Safe, Queensland's Blue Light Drag and the Northern Territories Beat The Heat.

In June 2005 he accomplished a personal challenge of raising $100,000 for the Kids With Cancer Foundation in his ‘Help Brett Help the Kids’ campaign. As a result he cut off what was then the most recognised hairstyle in Australian motorsport, his lifelong ponytail, during the Finals of the largest Drag Racing event outside North America, Willowbank Raceway’s Winternationals. As well as this, he is also an official Patron for the Leukemia Foundation Australia.
